4 Tips on How to Become an Expert

by | Mar 12, 2015

Establishing yourself as an expert is not something that can be done overnight, but with a little strategic effort, it can be done. There are several ways to position yourself as an expert in your line of work. The following four tips will get you off to a great start.

1.  Publish Articles

Research various online and print magazines that are related to your field of work and submit articles for publication. Not only will you gain exposure, but you will be positioned as a credible source in your field. Don’t be afraid to write articles for as many media outlets as possible.

2.  Write a Blog

Just as you should look for opportunities to publish articles for various magazines and journals, you should also host your own blog with a regular output of content. Consistently providing valuable, educational resources will build your readership, potential customer base, and expertise.

3.  Speak Professionally

Many people find the idea of speaking to large crowds daunting, but if you have the opportunity to do it, you should. Speaking at conferences or other business events will allow you to not only get your name out there, but establish your name as an expert.

4.  Build Your Following

It is important to build a solid network and following in order to gain credibility as an expert. One way this can be done is by building your followers on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.  Using social media tactfully, by posting valuable,  timely information, will help gain exposure and build your audience.
