WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am the COO/CFO of UpPurpose Inc. UpPurpose provides social good organizations with a cloud-based content management platform and creative services to amplify their impact. Our product and services enable our partners to deepen their connections with donors and use content performance analytics to see what’s resonating with audiences, on which channel. Our product and services are bespoke to the philanthropic sector. We combine our passion for cause-driven, social good companies, and nonprofits with deep industry expertise in storytelling and technology to help nonprofits transform their digital marketing.

 

WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR? WHY DOES THE WORLD NEED YOU?

Nonprofits are increasingly challenged in building digital marketing solutions internally, as either (1) the in-house team is too small to meet all internal demands and critical projects may be backlogged for years before action, or (2) the in-house team is trained in traditional marketing efforts with little experience in digital. Moreover, compensation structures in the digital sector
make hiring quality resources prohibitively expensive for nonprofits. UpPurpose brings a vast array of expertise to an industry that is slowly leaning into digital transformation:

WHAT IMPACT ARE YOU MAKING?

We launched our business in early 2019 and currently have more than 50 nonprofit clients using our platform and content services. We are helping our clients reach new and existing donors and volunteers by providing an easy-to-use, one-stop content creation and management tool as well as creating hundreds of digital assets for social, email, and websites to enable our clients to continuously be top of mind for their donor constituents.

 

WHAT (OR WHO) INSPIRES YOU TO MAKE THIS IMPACT?

We are inspired every day by the impacts being made by our clients in their communities. We want to make sure they can stay focused on that impact work while having simple and easy resources to amplify their stories digitally.

 

WHAT’S YOUR VISION, YOUR BIG DREAM, FOR THE ORGANIZATION AND THE IMPACT YOU WANT TO MAKE?

Our vision is to help our nonprofit clients make larger impacts in their communities and the world. By showing our clients more efficient and productive ways to develop and distribute content, we help them broadcast what they are doing to a wider audience and build deeper relationships with supporters. Our dream is to help all nonprofits find and connect with the people who will invest in and propel their cause.

 

WHAT RESOURCES DO YOU NEED TO MAKE THAT DREAM COME TRUE?

Our focus is building connections in the social good sector. We are excited to have conversations about the needs of nonprofits, especially as we continue to grow and evolve our business. Connections and conversations may not be typically classified as resources, but they are what we need most to add value to this space.

 

WHAT CHALLENGES ARE YOU FACING?

As with any business of our size, our challenges are always sales-oriented and scaling the business to manage growth.

 

WHAT WORDS OF ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER LEADERS LOOKING TO MAKE AN IMPACT?

Don’t underestimate the power good storytelling can have on inspiring an audience to act – whether that is becoming an advocate, a volunteer or a donor.

 

WHAT’S ONE THING YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT THE IMPORTANT WORK YOU’RE DOING?

Here are some recent email and social media statistics:

  • Email messaging drives 13% of all online revenue (M+R Benchmarks Report).
  • Nonprofits sent an average of 59 email messages per subscriber in 2018 (M+R Benchmarks Report).
  • 94% of online adults now have an account with at least one social platform (globalwebindex).
  • 71% of nonprofits worldwide agree that social media is effective for online fundraising (Global NGO Technology Report).
  • 29% of online donors say that social media is the communication tool that most inspires them to give [email 27%, website, 18%, print, 12%, TV ad 6%] (Global Trends in Giving Report).
